Join us for the last FIVE AT FIVE Concert of Season 2018-2019
The Singers Companye, Akron’s Chamber Choir will perform under the artistic direction of Samuel Gordon at 5 p.m. on May 5 in the sanctuary.
The concert is free and open to the public. This superb ensemble has chosen a poetic theme they are calling At the Heart Of It. Throughout the Companye season, the repertoire has encouraged listeners to “listen to their lives.” See your life for the fathomless mystery it is. In the boredom and pain of it, no less than in the excitement and gladness: touch, taste, smell your way to the holy and hidden heart of it, because in the last analysis all moments are key moments, and life itself is grace. The program includes part-songs by Franz Schubert; The Peace of Wild Things by choral rock star, Jake Runestad (first Akron performance);Three Themes of Life and Love , for choir and percussion by Daniel Elder; Child of Song by Steven Sametz; Locus Iste by Paul Mealor; and William Averitt’s new work based on American shape note tunes, Over Jordan for choir and piano four hands.
